History Est. 1965
We are a second generation family business. Barbara and Brian Shrewsbury, along with their two sons, Adam Tichenor and Kellen Tichenor, and their daughter Abby Tichenor operate and run the day to day business. Daughter Hayley Tichenor and Laura Schrenk work with our classes and general maintainence of our site. Our youngest 9 year old son, helps out from day to day, homeschools and in the future hopes to be a National level gymnast.
Barbara has two married daughters, Meredith Adomanis and Lauren Washington, and one married son, Derek Tichenor. They have given us 2 grand daughters and 3 grand sons and hopefully more will be on the way. We have a very closed christian family that attends New Life Church in LaPlata Maryland. Both Abby Tichenor and Hayley Tichenor are Sunday School teachers and Kellen Tichenor and Barbara have traveled extensively in Guatemala on multiple mission trips. We thank the many students and families that have supported our business and hope that the blessings that they have given us will be returned to them each and every day.
History Founder Carolyn Brown Shrewsbury was born right here in Maryland. She grew up and performed gymnastics and dance here at home and across the country. She was on the Howdy Doody Show, The Bozo the Clown Show, Mickey Mouse Show and other shows as she grew up in show acrobatics. When she went to the University of Maryland in College Park, she performed in their show team; GymKana. She met Jerry Shrewsbury (her husband and partner founder) at UMCP and got married. They began Jerry and Carolyn's School of Dance, in the Market Place Center in Bowie , MD. They developed acro and dance programs that were vey popular at the time.
The Royal T's Gymnastics
As the center grew, more and more students were interested in gymnstics with dance. The center acquired more gymnastics equipment and then began looking for a new place. Our new home center was found in Crofton MD, by the Bowling Center in Priest Bridge Business Park. We stayed here for the next 20 years. The Royal T's Gymnastics Center had many top level gymnasts, traveling within the USA and abroad. The club gained much success with the ability to train gymnasts and nurture the child. Our club never felt that the gymnast was more important than the person and that philosophy still exists today.

Move to Upper Marlboro
In 1989 our club grew again and moved to Upper Marlbor to aquire more space. Brian Shrewsbury began running and training athelets along side his parents Jerry and Carolyn Shrewsbury. As the years progressed Brian ran more of the center and eventally was in charge of all of the programs. In 1996 Brian Shrewsbury married Barbara Taylor, and their blended family grew to 9 children. Some of the children were already training in the centers' programs. Adam, Kellen, Abby and Hayley Tichenor were training in gymnastics and were developing into very successful gymnasts. Barb's older three
children Lauren, Meredith and Derek Tichenor were going to college and beginning careers and families. That year Barb and Brian bought Royal T's Gymnastics and it became Maryland State Gymnastics Center Inc. For the past 14 years Barb and Brian along side Adam and Kellen have been running Maryland State Gymnastics Center together.
